Breadfruit

The poems in Malika Booker’s début, Breadfruit, are poems of emergence, loss and growth, delivered under the particular light of the Black British experience, one that is informed by glossaries from Grenada and Guyana, the overspill of carnival and exile.  The heartbreak of ‘Clasped’ is balanced with the personal tribute of ‘For Clara’, all sharing the lilt of shared songs and hard-earned humour. This fine pamphlet was commended by the PBS Selectors in 2007.
